Natural Scents to Make Your Home Smell Amazing

Sometimes a delicious meal can turn into a smelly annoyance afterword, or a small closet could be stuffed with one too many sweaty shoes. Instead of reaching for a chemical air “freshener” that is sold in stores, here’s a list of natural fragrances you can easily make at home for little to no money!

Spice it up

Spices are often used to add a little something extra to dishes, but spices can also fill your home with warm and fragrant smells. By simply adding a few sticks of cinnamon, some cloves and two or three orange peels to a small pot of water and then bring to simmer, your home will be enveloped with a warm and inviting aroma. Other combinations you can easily simmer in a pot include lemon peels, cardamom and star anise.

Indoor Herb Garden

A great way to purify the hair in your home as well as naturally lower carbon dioxide and fill your home with natural scents is by growing your own indoor herbs. Some fragrant herbs that are easy to plant year round in your home are Rosemary, Lavender, Jasmine and Mint. Be sure to provide plenty of fresh water and a sunny spot to keep your aromatic herbs healthy and happy!

Essential Oils

Essential oils are a great way to keep your home smelling wonderful without worrying about harmful ingredients that can possibly cause harm to the environment. By adding a few drops to a small cotton ball and then placing in little nooks like the bottom of drawers or the back of closets, you’ll create an abundance of fragrance that will shoo away any funky odors. Popular essential oils like lavender and lemon are not only refreshing to inhale but great at deodorizing as well!

DIY Scented Spray

Another great use for adding natural fragrance to your home with essential oils is by making your very own scented room spray! All you need is a small spray bottle filled with distilled water and about 15 drops of your favorite essential oil. Some awesome scent combinations to try are lavender and rosemary, cranberry and cinnamon or rose and peppermint.

Vanilla Extract

Vanilla extract is an amazing ingredient when it comes to getting rid of smelly kitchen odors. Just place two capfuls of vanilla extract into a small coffee cup, and bake at 300 degrees for one hour. Before you know it, bad odors will be gone and replaced with the wonderful aroma of vanilla. Your nose will thank you!
