Increasing your Health Span – with Your Health Span

Your Health Span was established by Jill Burk, a local massage therapist, in 2007 after the demand for her unique home massage service was so great she needed to employ more people to satisfy the demand.

“For many people finding the time to fit in massage is another stressor, driving to and from an appointment and getting child care can all conspire to keep us from taking care of ourselves in a natural, sustainable way,” comments Jill, and citing that this was the reason that she started a home service. “Massage and other alternative therapies don’t just help the physical aches and pains either.  By releasing endorphins, serotonin and decreasing our cortisol we have more energy, feel better and think clearer.”

The benefits or massage therapy are clear.

The Mayo clinic, who use massage as part of their treatments for the effects of long term addiction, states:

“Massage is generally considered part of complementary and alternative medicine. It’s increasingly being offered along with standard treatment for a wide range of medical conditions and situations.

Studies of the benefits of massage demonstrate that it is an effective treatment for reducing stress, pain and muscle tension. Some studies have found massage may also be helpful for:

  • Anxiety
  • Digestive disorders
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Headaches
  • Insomnia related to stress
  • Myofascial pain syndrome
  • Paresthesia’s and nerve pain
  • Soft tissue strains or injuries
  • Sports injuries
  • Temporomandibular joint pain

Beyond the benefits for specific conditions or diseases, some people enjoy massage because it often involves caring, comfort, a sense of empowerment and creating deep connections with their massage therapist.”

Jill and her dedicated team at Your Health Span spend their time helping people understand pain that they may have had for some time, massaging it to give relief.

“Suddenly everyone is getting massage therapy, and bragging about how it takes away their pain, makes them more flexible and just makes them feel better – and rightly so.  Massage therapy can help many people, especially with muscle stiffness and pain.  The therapist will work on stiff and sore spots releasing tension, in some cases even releasing sore spots that have lingered for years.

People that suffer from back, neck and shoulder pain often find relief as years of bad posture, heavy lifting, working and sitting over a computer suddenly cause intense pain and discomfort in your later years.  This discomfort and pain, which can keep you from important things like golf, family and interrupt sleep should be fixed if possible,” reports Jill, but massage is only one way that she uses to relieve pain naturally.

Seniors are particularly at risk of postural pain, so Your Health Span are all experienced in senior massage and the benefits it can add to their lives and routines.

The at home therapists at Your Health Span offer a range of massage therapy, reflexology, acupuncture, Thai compress massage, hot stone massage, acupressure, esthetics and more, but one thing that is important to Jill and her team is the use of all natural, local and sustainable products as well as sustainable services. The goal is to provide all the services using 100% natural product, to help their clients find relief from pain, stress, and fatigue in a natural and organic way without the harmful side effects of pharmaceuticals. Local products they use include Lowens Skincare range that was developed and is made right here in Calgary as well as others.

Their service is offered in a comfortable, friendly way making people feel calm and relaxed as they are treated in a familiar place, which has been so successful that they have been invited back to Spruce Meadows for the 2015 season as their official therapists.

With their dedication to helping people to sustainable health and a great feeling of well-being, Jill and the therapists at Your Health Span are well qualified to have you feeling calm, relaxed and content without costing the earth.
